Housing
Location, location, location does not pertain only to
business development. Your employees, whether relocated
or newly hired, consider this a major factor in deciding where
to settle.
Streamwood was originally developed for returning Korean
War veterans to obtain affordable housing in an ideal area to
settle and raise families. From that simple vision has
arisen a growing community, forty years strong with a bright
future ahead!

Results of the suburb rating survey conducted by Chicago
Magazine (October 1996) showed Streamwood rated favorably
in combining good schools with safe streets, easy commutes,
solid housing values, and abundant recreational amenities.
Housing in Streamwood is affordable. Whether you seek
a starter home, a maintenance-free town home or an executive
home, you will find a sampling of all in Streamwood.
Enhanced by its rolling, tree-populated terrain, one of the
Village's principal assets is the strong appeal of its
pleasant living environment. The convenience of urban
business and shopping are combined with the pleasure of
country living. Being designated a Tree City USA is
another statement of commitment to nature and the environment.
Trees and greenery are bountiful. Safe, clean,
contemporary parks are a priority. New developments are
encouraged to maintain existing woods. Existing wetlands
are not drained. Woodland animals and birds live
peacefully with their new neighbors. The country feeling
is retained. You are away from it all.
The
wide range of housing available in Streamwood meets
many income and housing needs. Convenient, affordable
condominiums and town house are available from $100,000.
Starter homes, both new and preowned, sit on generous lots.
Many of these established neighborhoods are lined with mature
trees. Executive homes, constructed in the Village's
hilly westernmost extension, and around the Streamwood Oaks
Golf Course, attract higher income households into the
Streamwood community. These areas start as low as
$275,000. Streamwood also has one of the most favorable
real estate tax rates prevailing among the various taxing
municipalities of Cook County.
Quality schools are an important consideration to
relocating families. Awarded the Blue Ribbon School
Award by Expansion Management Magazine (December 1996),
School
District U-46 has shown to be successful in educating
students at lower costs, producing better than average test
scores and results, based on the national norm. School
District U-46 is the second largest district in the state,
with more than 100 years of experience and service to students
and their communities. Midwestern values such as hard
work, respect for others, and a strong desire to learn, help
prepare these students for the 21st century. The lessons
and experiences of the past prepare students for the
challenges of the future.
Streamwood is one of 11 communities serviced by School
District U-46. Eight elementary schools, two middle
schools and a high school serve Streamwood and surrounding
communities.
