Village residents are provided a variety of services by a number of other governmental units. Where you live will determine the school your child attends, which park or library districts serves your needs, or what social services are provided through a township.

Libraries

Poplar Creek Library

Most residents enjoy the services of the Poplar Creek Library District. The Poplar Creek Library actually started in Streamwood in 1966. Created by a successful referendum to establish library service for the Village residents, the library was first located in a house on Briarwood Drive. The Library moved into commercial store front space in 1969. It the mid-1970s, the Streamwood Library became Poplar Creek District Library and expanded its service area to include areas of Hanover Park. In 1976, ground was broken for a new main branch building on Park Avenue. In 1980, the Library became a Federal and State document depository. And, in 2009, the Poplar Creek Library underwent a major expansion, more than doubling in size!

Gail Borden

Residents who live west of Route 59 are served by the Gail Borden Library District. Its main branch office is located on North Grove Avenue in Elgin.

Schaumburg Township Library

Residents who live east of Barrington Road are served by the Schaumburg Township District Library. Its main branch is located at Roselle and Schaumburg Roads in Schaumburg.

All of these Library Districts have reciprocal agreements. This allows residents from each district to share and use the facilities from one another.

Parks

Community Park Place Streamwood is bounded by an abundance of natural amenities, and fortunate to have two great park districts, all offering hundreds of acres of open space and recreational programs to serve our residents.

Streamwood Park District

The Streamwood Park District is a full-service recreational agency serving residents who live west of Barrington Road. The Park District is responsible for maintaining all parks and park facilities. The Park District owns and maintains hundreds of acres of land at over 40 locations throughout our community. Major facilities include the Community Center, Park Place Family Recreation Center, Hoosier Grove Barn Banquet Facility, Hoosier Grove Schoolhouse Museum, and Sunny Hill Park. Hundreds of programs are offered each year to suit all ages, interest and abilities. Seasonal brochures provide descriptions and registration information, and are delivered directly to District residents. Brochures, as well as additional program and special event flyers, are also available at the Park District Administrative Offices (777 S Bartlett Road) and at major facilities. Schaumburg Park District

Residents who live east of Barrington Road are served by the Schaumburg Park District. For more information on their programs and services, please call (847) 985-2115 or visit the Schaumburg Park District website.

Cook County Forest Preserve

Residents also have access to wonderful natural amenities in the Cook County Forest Preserve. The Arthur L. Janura Forest Preserve bounds the Village on the north and west of our community. The Janura Preserve includes notable amenities and locations including the Carl S. Hansen Woods, Bode Lake, Poplar Creek Model Airplane Flying Field and Shoe Factorty Road Prairie Nature Preserve. The Preserve is home to the Poplar Creek Trail System and its 21 miles of paved and unpaved trails that provide opportunities to horseback ride, bike and hike through woodlands and prairies. Rolling Knolls is also located near Streamwood and offers a large pavilion for events and a half-mile trail, sledding, fishing, and 18-hole disc golf course. Schools

School District U-46

Ridge Circle School Streamwood enjoys a wide range of quality educational opportunities for its residents. The majority of the community is served by School District U-46. U-46 is a large and diverse school district, which offers a wide variety of programming from pre-school through high school. Streamwood is proud to house numerous neighborhood elementary schools, where most students walk to school, as well as two middle schools and Streamwood High School.

School Districts 54 and 211

The Wildberry and New England subdivisions in Streamwood, which are located east of Barrington Road, are in Elementary School District 54 and Township High School District 211.

Elgin Community College

Community ECC Streamwood is also home to a satellite branch of Elgin Community College, part of the Illinois Community College system. ECC features cooperative programs with other universities and colleges. Dual-admission, bachelor-degree-completion programs on campus, fully articulated programs, and on-line bachelor degrees are available. ECC also offers unique educational opportunities here in Streamwood. The ECC-Streamwood Center is located in Village Hall. Classrooms include lecture hall and computer resource center and offer credit and non-credit classes.
