The Village provides retirement and/or disability benefits, through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), for employees not covered under the Police or Firefighters Pension Funds. The Village also maintains the Police and Firefighters Pension Funds, which are defined benefit contributory pension plans, created for the purpose of providing retirement and/or disability benefits to Police Officers and Firefighters, and their surviving spouses and dependents. In 2022, in accordance with Senate Bill 1300 and Illinois Public Act 101-0610, the Streamwood Police Pension Fund investment assets were consolidated into the Illinois Police Officers Pension Investment Fund (IPOPIF) and the Streamwood Fire Pension Fund investment assets were consolidated into the Illinois Firefighters’ Pension Investment Fund (IFPIF). Per Illinois Revised Statutes (40 ICS 5) section 3-143 Report by Pension Board, the Police and Fire Pension Boards report annually to the Village Board on the condition of the pension funds at the end of their most recent completed fiscal year. The reports shall be made prior to the board meeting held for appropriating and levying taxes for the year for which the reports are made.
