The Village is divided into four zones which determine your collection day.

7:00am - 5:00pm

Materials must be placed at the curb no earlier than 5:00pm the day before collection, but no later than 6:00am the day of collection (there is no guarantee that the truck will be in your neighborhood at the same time each week). Refuse containers must be removed from the curb by 9:00pm the day of collection.

If a holiday falls on a weekday, on or before your scheduled collection, service will be delayed one day. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, it will be observed on Monday and service will be delayed one day the entire week. No change if holiday is on Saturday. The following holidays affect the collection schedule:

• New Year's Day
• Memorial Day
• July 4th
• Labor Day
• Thanksgiving Day
• Christmas Day

Groot provides wheeled refuse cart service for all residential customers in the Village. Residents may keep their existing carts. New carts can be selected in 95-gallon or 64-gallon sizes, depending on your needs. Carts are delivered to your address once service is initiated. If the cart ever becomes damaged, simply call Groot at (847) 429-7370 for a free replacement. Additional carts may also be rented from Groot.

Customers may also opt-out of the cart program and use their own reusable containers (cans) or sealed impervious (plastic) bags for general waste disposal. Bags and containers cannot exceed 33 gallons and may not exceed 50 pounds in weight. Overweight or over capacity containers may not be picked up. Customers are responsible for the replacement of these containers.

Groot also provides wheeled recycling cart service for all residential customers in the Village. The recycling carts have different colored lids for ease of identification. Residents can use their existing carts. New carts can be selected in 95-gallon or 64-gallon sizes, depending on your needs. Carts are delivered to your address once service is initiated. If the cart ever becomes damaged, simply call Groot at (847) 429-7370 for a free replacement. Additional carts may also be rented from Groot.

Customers may opt-out of the wheeled recycling cart program as well. Residents may continue to use the old blue or green recycling bins, or any other reusable container, as long as it meets size and weight limits (less than 50 pounds and not more than 33 gallons) and is clearly marked ‘recycling’. Recycle bins must be placed at the curb to serve as a visual signal to the collection crew that you have recyclables for pick-up. Customers are responsible for the replacement of these containers.

Fluorescent light bulbs may not be disposed in your garbage or recycled as part of our curbside recycling program. Some companies (such as Home Depot) will take small compact fluorescent bulbs, but not the typical four (4) foot bulbs. To dispose of these bulbs, please take your fluorescent bulbs to the EPA site in Naperville, or any other Household Hazardous Waste event. Please note, the Village does not accept these bulbs as part of its annual SEED event.

It is not necessary to sort recyclable materials: all recyclables may be placed together in the recycling cart or bin.

Collection is seasonal and occurs from April 1st through the second full week of December, and again, the first three (3) weeks of January for the collection of Christmas Trees.

Landscape/yardwaste includes: grass clippings, leaves, weeds, shrubbery, brush, small branches and other material accumulated as a result of the care of lawns, shrubbery and trees. Disposal of landscape/yardwaste must be in either brown Kraft paper bags available for purchase at local stores, or by designating a regular trash can to be used solely for Yardwaste that does not exceed 33 gallons in size, and 50 pounds in weight. This is accomplished by purchasing a single Yardwaste sticker for $1.00 at Village Hall. This sticker is to act as a visual signal to the crew that you have Yardwaste for pick-up. Plastic "biodegradable" bags are not accepted.

Bundles of brush and branches will also be collected. Brush and branches up to 4 feet must be bundled with twine (wire or plastic is not acceptable). Bundles should be 4 feet or less in length, 2 feet or less in diameter at the base and easily lifted to waist height. Landscape waste does not include wood timbers, plastic edging, plant pots or trays, fertilizer or landscape material bags, landscape fabric, root sections, sand, gravel, sod, firewood or animal waste.

Including but not limited to stoves, ovens, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners, freezers, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, water softeners, water heaters, microwave ovens, trash compactors and dishwashers. For safety reasons please remove all doors prior to placing at the curb. There is a $25.00 charge per item for the collection of these appliances. Please call Groot at (847) 429-7370 to arrange for a pick up.

In lieu of one bulk item, two (2) yards collected weekly at no additional charge. Includes items such as lumber, drywall, paneling, carpeting, rocks, dirt, concrete, sod, bricks and branches greater the 6" in diameter. These materials must be placed in bags or boxes not to exceed 4 feet in length and 50 pounds in weight. Single items such as toilets, sinks, vanities, garage doors, swing sets, and kitchen cabinets must be disassembled and each portion or item cannot exceed 50 pounds in weight. There will be an additional charge per cubic yard, payable prior to service for quantities of construction/remodeling debris in excess of two (2) cubic yards. Groot will collect up to six (6) electronic items (excluding television over 50 pounds) at the curb per week for $35.00. Televisions over 50 pounds require an additional fee. Please contact Groot at least 24 hours in advance of their service day to schedule any e-waste pick up at (847) 429-7370.

Additionally, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) Residential E-Waste Program, has options for safely getting rid of your old residential computers, monitors, laptops, televisions, and printers. Please note old electronic equipment being discarded from a business is not covered by this program.

Here's how the program works. The Illinois EPA has compiled a list of e-waste collectors, whom you may contact regarding recycling either at no charge to you, or, if there is a fee, in exchange for a dollar-for-dollar coupon you can use to reduce the cost of new equipment. The Illinois EPA has this list sorted, alphabetically by county, and it includes site addresses and phone numbers. The Illinois EPA recommends that you call the collection site nearest you for its schedule, as well as the types of old electronics the site will accept. Some sites will accept not only your computers, monitors, TVs, and printers, but also items like keyboards, mice, DVD players, and other electronics.

One bulk item, under 50 pounds per week, will be picked up on regular collection days with no additional charge. Additional items may be collected for an additional cost. Please call Groot at (847) 429-7370 for details.
