Home MenuChief's Message
On behalf of the men and women of the Streamwood Fire Department, I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit our website and learn more about the services the fire department provides. Our primary mission is to protect the lives and property of residents, visitors, and members of the business community from fires, accidents, and medical emergencies. We do so first and foremost by preventing incidents before they occur. This is accomplished through proper building design and construction, the installation and maintenance of proper detection and suppression systems, on-going life safety inspections, and community education and risk reduction efforts. The Fire Department responds to all types of emergencies from three fire stations staffed 24-hours a day.
In addition to fire prevention and fire suppression activities, the fire department also responds to emergency medical incidents. All firefighters are paramedics, and apparatus are equipped with advanced life support (ALS) equipment to deliver excellent pre-hospital care to patients suffering traumatic injuries or medical emergencies. The fire department always operates two ALS ambulances, each staffed with firefighter/paramedics, to transport patients to local hospitals while administering emergency medical care.
Other services provided by the fire department include hazardous materials response, technical and water rescue, and fire investigation. Members of the fire department train regularly to maintain appropriate professional certifications and work closely with neighboring agencies to provide mutual aid services as needed. Several of our members also participate in state and regional special teams including the Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) Illinois Task-Force-1, the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS), and the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Divisions 1 and 2.
The fire department welcomes the opportunity to meet with residents to share information about its mission, and to share fire and life-safety messages. Residents can schedule tours of the fire stations and are encouraged to invite speakers from the department to address members of local organizations. Through education and enforcement, we can prevent the tragic effects of fires and sudden medical emergencies. Please do not hesitate to request our assistance in providing educational opportunities for your family or community group. We enjoy the opportunity to meet the people we serve.
As the 7th Fire Chief of the Streamwood Fire Department, I am proud of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and professionalism our members exhibit each day. Additional details of our programs and services can be found on this website or by calling our headquarters at 630-736-3650. As always, I welcome any questions, concerns, or comments regarding the fire department.
Sincerely,
Michael L. Meyer Fire Chief
