Over the past 50 years, the Streamwood Police Department has ensured that proper equipment and resources have been available to the Department. Starting in the 1950s with only a couple of squads, the Department fleet has grown over 25 vehicles including 20 squads, three SUVs, vans and trucks.

Our First Squad

This squad car was we believe the first in our marked fleet. We believe this photo was taken from a parade in 1959.

Squads in the 1960s

This squad car was used during the early to mid-1960s. The door emblem was our first logo attached to a squad car and was transformed into the center of our current shoulder patch. The badge in this picture was our first badge used by members of the department.

Squads in the 1970s

The car on the right was used during the mid- to late-1970s. It was fairly similar to the squads used in the mid-1960s, darker colored vehicles with a single door emblem. However, this door emblem was no longer the badges, but the shoulder patch used from the late-1960s to the mid-1990s.

Squads in the 1980s

During the 1980s the Department returned to lighter cars, with a powder blue theme. The squad car on the left below was from 1980. It shows the lighter colors, with a multi-lined strip, but maintained the shoulder patch door emblem. The car on the right below is from the mid-1980s. Here, the Department maintained the lighter colors, but removed the emblem patch. The stripe became bolder and incorporated the Department's name on the vehicle.

Squads in the 1990s

A new fleet of squads was put into service when the Police Station was remodeled in 1991 (above). The pattern followed the lighter blue stripes, but defined the Department name more fully into the stripe.

In the mid-1990s, the design changed to the dark blue stripe, with the name "Streamwood" above. A door emblem was added, which was the original door emblem from the 1960s.

Squads in the 2000s

A more significant redesign occurred with the turn of the millennium (above). The design had a much more stylized stripe in different shades of blue, but topped by the word "Police" in gold, and "Streamwood" underneath in light blue. This is the first squad car to utilize our current shoulder patch on the front fender. This design was utilized from 2000-2005.

From 2005 until the vehicles are replaced, our current design is a true blend of these various designs. The shoulder patch remains on the front fender. The stripe is darker, but more fully incorporates the word "Police," while the name "Streamwood" is beneath the stripe. Many of our current vehicles, including sport utility vehicles, carry the same design.

Squads in the 2020s

In 2021, our squads began to significantly transition in the design appearance. The traditional lighter vehicles began to switch to black vehicles. A white wrap over the passenger doors display "Police" in large, bold lettering with "Streamwood" underneath. The department's shoulder patch is also displayed on each of the front doors. As vehicles are rotated into the fleet, they are prepared with the current design.
